The Hatchet + Bear Collaboration

Collaborations are a special thing, they let creatives cross over to share different disciplines, they throw up beautiful and exciting ideas and make a partnership of creating something unique.

On the 9th of February 2018 - this date will stay with me for a very long time. Being approached by EJ Osborne aka - Hatchet + Bear came as an honor and a surprise - that my work had caught his eyes. EJ is someone who’s journey I have followed and admired the work of for many years.

At this moment our friendship and collaboration began.

After bouncing many emails back and forth about designs, size, thread and leather colours (of which I may have gone a little OTT with pretty much every shade under and over the rainbow) The making of a beautiful object for keeping our small writing notebook and tools together, secure and ready to jot and scribble was born.

For both of us, a notebook case made with vegetable tanned leather was going to be a beautiful thing from the start. But the unique journey that leather case would embark on over time and wear was going to be something of pure delight.

*Note: all my SOWK pieces take on the use of vegetable tanned leather which wears in with use and acquires a beautiful patina and polish over time as it becomes part of each owners daily use.

At this point: a year on, there are 40 of our Hatchet + Bear x SOWK collaboration cases out there....their journey has begun.
